On October 26, the author was the guest speaker at Emory’s Center for International and Comparative Law. The full video is available here.

After an introduction by Professor Jonathan Nash, Professor Price discussed disease outbreaks through the lens of history and legal intervention, drawing particular attention to the problems that federalism presents in creating and implementing a cohesive and effective national response to a pandemic.

Price examined legal and social responses to outbreaks in the United States throughout history and their parallels to our current responses. Interestingly, Professor Price began writing the book well before the March 2020 COVID-19 shutdowns in the United States. After the presentation, audience members engaged insightfully with Professor Price and it was suggested that America’s legal responses have shaped pandemics more than pandemics have shaped America.
